Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability

Usability design is one of the most important--yet often least attractive--tasks for a Web developer. In Don't Make Me Think, author Steve Krug lightens up the subject with good humor and excellent, to-the-point examples.

The Elements of User Experience: User-Centered Design for the Web

How many times have you been involved in a Web site design effort that seems to fit this approach? Sadly, we all have such experiences in our lives. This delightful little book provides user experience designers a conceptual model for producing Web sites. This allows for a process that is rigorous, logical, and easily communicated.

Applying the results of two usability tests and focus groups in China, mediaman compares differences in online-behavior to a Western market such as Germany. The usability tests gathered in Shanghai in March, along with selected typical visitors and users of B2C-websites for automotive and financial markets. Among others websites from Mercedes-Benz, DWS Investments and Allianz Assurance were compared to the ones of Zhonghua Cars, Bank of China and Ping An Assurance.

Tanja Mäurer, usability-expert with mediaman Germany, was present: "We were keen on getting an insight into Chinese internet users' expectations of a vehicle configurator, or into how they approach online-banking. The results will help us to advise our globally active clients on their website localization and online-processes."

The Shanghai focus groups are chaired and organised by Fabian Fischer and Tanja Mäurer, both with mediaman, Germany, and by Joyce Gu, marketing manager for mediaman, China. The documentation of the results including recommendations for have been published and can be ordered by writing an e-mail to us.
